Leçon 7 : A / Some (Kreyol)

An anglè, li gen yon atik indéfini ke ou kapap mete devan non yon bagay ki o sengilyé. Atik sa a se “a”. Pou’w deziyé yon kantité indéfini de yon bagay ou byen de moun, nou ka itilizé “some”.

Nou itilizé  “a” pou yon non ki komansé pa yon konson.: a man (yon gason), a jacket (yon manto), a bottle (yon boutèy). Nou ka itilizé’l tou lè yon non komansé pa lèt “h” épi ki pa myè: a house (yon kay), a hole (yon twou).

Nou itilizé “some” nan yon fraz afimativ. Nou ka itilizé’l tou nan yon fraz interogativ: would like to eat some fruits. (Mwen ta renmen manjé kèk fwi) Do you want some bread ? (ou bezwen pen). Some of you will stay at work until 7 pm. (Genyen nan nou kap ret travay jiska 7 è).

Leçon 3 : Old/ Nice/ Interesting (Kreyol)

An anglè, pou’w dekri yon moun ou byen yon kichôy, ou byen pou’w bay opinion’w sou yon moun ou byen sou yon kichôy, ou ka itilizé adjektiv sa yo ki sé: old, nice é interesting

Ou itilizé “old » pou palé de yon moun ou yon bagay ki viv lontan ou byen yon moun ou yon bagay ki dépasé môd: He is now 80, he’s an old man (li gen 80 lané kounye a, li vrèman vyé);  She has a weird style, she is completely old fashioned (Li gen yon estil biza, li vrèman démodé);  You know a lot about the history of the city, you must be very old (ou konn bokou kichôy sou listwa vil la, ou dwé gen bokou laj).

Ou itilizé“nice” pou palé de yon moun ou yon bagay ki bèl ou yon yon moun ki janti: She is a really nice person,  always here to help others (li sé yon moun trè janti, toujou la pou édé); That girl is very nice (tifi sa a vrèman janti);   I have a nice jacket (mwen gen yon bèl manto).

Ou itilizé “interesting” pou’w dekri santiman’ w konsènan  yon moun ou yon bagay. He is very educated, he’s an interesting man ( li trè éduké, li enteresan); The movie is very interesting (fim nan vrèman enteresan); There was nothing interesting in the market ( li pa’t gen anyen enteresan nan makèt la).

Leçon 6 Articles & Determiners

In English there are definite and indefinite articles. We put them in front of a name to determine the gender and the number.

There is 1 definite article: the

We use « the » before a name or a subject that was already mentioned: The bag I told you about is very expensive.We also use it before a name or a specific subject: The apartment near the train station is very cosy. It can finally be used before the name of a country or mountain in plural: We find the White House in the United States. The Pyrenees is a mountain range in southwestern Europe.

 There are 2 indefinite articles: a and an

 We use « a » for a name starting with a conson: a man, a jacket, a bottle.We also use it when the name is starting with a non mute h: a house, a hole.

We use “an” for a name starting with a vowel: an umbrella, an event, an incident. We also use it when the name is starting with a mute h: an hour, an honor.

Sometimes, we don’t use any articles.It can be the case before a global name or a generality: She loves cheese. People like to go on holidays. It can also be the case before a day of the week or a month: Sunday is generally a rest day. I’m going on holiday in June. It can be finally the case before the name of a country or a city: I live in Paris. France is full of historical monuments
